Track Day / Aftermarket Fairing Fitting Tips
Many bikes that have been dropped or involved in minor accidents often have bent fairing supports or other unseen subframe damage that isn't always apparent at first glance. Once your begin to fit a new aftermarket fairing kit these defects will quickly start to show in the way of screw holes and panels that now wont align. These issues can make the fitting accessories and fairing kits extremely difficult or in extreme cases impossible to fit.
  1. Remember to check all fairing mounting points and subframes on your bike for correct alignment of all holes and for any accident damage. Look for bent or miss-aligned mounting points and frame arms. This is extremely important to ensure a good fit of your new fairing kit. All bent or damaged stays must be straightened or replaced before fitment of all new panels or parts.
  2. Most race day / trackday fiberglass fairing kits don't come with pre-drilled holes so the mounting points/holes will need to be drilled in order to allow the panels to be fitted. Take your time and don't rush this process or you will drill holes in the wrong places. Remember its easy to drill a hole but much more difficult to fill one when its in the wrong place.
  3. Have all your tools handy and within reach before beginning the job. Also make sure you have a container with compartments that you can use to label for all your bolts and parts from your old fairing kit. Doing this will speed the re-assembly process and make the job much faster.
  4. Make sure you have all the bolts or duez fasteners that your going to need to fit your faring kit on hand. Simons Superbikes can sell you extra bolts and Duez fasteners if you don't have any or require new ones. Fiberglass and aftermarket fairing kits don't come with bolts or fasteners so its good to make sure you have some handy before you attempt to fit your new kit.
